If it is determined that you do, the dentist will safely removes the infected pulp (the living tissue inside the tooth), nerves, bacteria, and any decay and then the resulting space is filled with special, medicated, biocompatible dental materials, keeps the dental canal healthy and restores tooth function. A crown is usually required required to complete your root canal treatment and provide the permanent seal, longevity and future protection of the tooth
Reasons for Endodontic Treatment
-Tooth infection. Disease in the tooth root may cause abscesses, pain, and irreversible nerve damage.
-Tooth decay – Undetected cavities send bacteria down the tooth root, endangering the pulp containing blood vessels and nerves (the living tissue inside the tooth).
-Tooth injury – Damage to the tooth nerve can place the tooth in danger, which in some cases doesn’t
The only other alternative option is to remove the tooth . However having a root canal done on a tooth is the treatment of choice and allows the tooth to be kept. Many patients believe that removing a tooth that has problems is the solution, but what is not realized is that extracting (pulling) a tooth will ultimately be more costly and cause significant problems for adjacent and opposing teeth.
Root canal treatment is highly successful and usually lasts a lifetime if done correctly , although on rare occasions, a tooth will have to be retreated or extracted due to new infections.
Here at CVDP , we are able to take referral’s from our collegues and carry out a painless root canal procedure all with very high success rates.
