Archwire

An archwire is the thin metal wire that runs behind, and connects, all the brackets in one set of braces. The archwire is like a track or guide that applies gentle, continuous pressure to your teeth, which causes them to move into their correct positions over time. Archwires can be made of different materials and different thicknesses, which are changed during treatment to produce very specific tooth movements.

How often should I change my archwire?

Archwires are usually adjusted or replaced every 4 to 8 weeks at your orthodontic appointments. The exact timing will depend on the stage of treatment and the movement of your teeth, as different wires are used to apply varying amounts of pressure to align your teeth and correct your bite.

Our orthodontics Manchester clinic carefully adjusts archwires for patients from Manchester and Stockport, providing gentle and precise treatment.
