Tartar

Tartar , also known as calculus, is hardened dental plaque that can build up on your teeth, above and below the gum line. Everyone develops plaque. However, if you don’t remove it with good oral hygiene, plaque can harden into tartar.

Unlike plaque, you cannot remove tartar by brushing and flossing. You need a dentist or dental hygienist to scrape it away during professional dental cleaning.

Symptoms of tartar on teeth?

  • Yellow, brown or black discolouration on teeth.
  • Bad breath (halitosis).
  • Gingivitis (gums that are red, swollen, or bleed easily).
  • A hard, crust-like buildup on teeth.

How do I remove tartar from my teeth?

You cannot remove tartar by brushing and flossing. You need to have it removed by a dentist or a dental hygienist, usually during a professional dental cleaning. Dental calculus is another word for tartar.

Our Cheadle hygienists provide safe and thorough tartar removal for patients from Manchester, Didsbury and Stockport. Regular dental visits prevent tartar buildup and protect your gums.
